Toni Newman - The Innovation Advantage

Unexpected Encounters™: The How To of Customer Touchpoint Experiences that Attract, Keep and Engage More Customers More Often
Imagine taking the power of Innovation and using it where it really counts, to help you to attract, engage and keep more customers.  Would that be of value to you and your organization?  At the core of Customer Touchpoint Innovation™ is a customer engagement strategy called Unexpected Encounters™ - Innovative Customer Touchpoint moments that are specifically designed to influence what your customers think, feel and do next.  In this highly interactive session you will have the opportunity to put the formula from Toni’s opening keynote into practice as she shows you how to apply imagination to information to identify (Did you know that there are over 50 Customer Touchpoints in any business?), prioritize (Learn why not all Customer Touchpoints are created equal) and create Unexpected Encounter™ opportunities for your family business.  Attract, Keep and Engage More Customers More Often.  Grow your business.

Grant C. Robinson - The SuccessCare Program

Trimming the Tree
Will you pass the baton to all your children equally, or is it unlikely that the next generation can successfully co-manage the operation?
Trimming the tree can be a viable option for transitioning the family enterprise. Just like when pruning a tree, removing a branch of the family from the family enterprise is sometimes the right thing to do... but extremely harmful if done wrong.
In this session you will review the Trim the Tree flow chart and examine real life situations to discover what does and does not work. You will explore the key components of the communication vehicle that is needed for a successful outcome.

David Simpson - Richard Ivey School of Business

Entrepreneurs and Business Families - Keeping the Link
This session speaks to Entrepreneurial Business Families who are making challenging business decisions, and busines family decisions. It reminds us that the core of every business family was at one time an "entrepreneur" - and the best business famillies are those that "remain entrepreneurial".
Remaining entrepreneurial is very counter evolutionary and takes hard work. David uses many of his own experiences as an entrepreneur to highlight behaviours we would like to focus on, using humour and cases to illustrate the points.

When I signed up to attend the CAFE 2008 Symposium I looked forward to the various sessions being not only informative but relevant to the unique issues faced by family businesses and I was not disappointed! The unique value that CAFE’s national symposium adds is that not only do its sessions touch on the latest relevant issues facing businesses today, but that it allows you to meet and share a wealth of experiences with other professionals working in family business.  That opportunity to connect and share with others in family business is something that only an outstanding organization like CAFE can provide.
